your next level
Jul 02, 2026
My son is starting a new business.
For years he's loved building things. Construction. Renovation. Taking something ordinary and making it beautiful again. After much prayer and thought, he's decided to transition from full-time ministry and pursue something that's been on his heart for as long as I can remember.
There was just one problem.
His vehicle.
He owned a great SUV. Reliable. Comfortable. Clean. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it... unless you wanted to pick up lumber, haul equipment, or transport a china cabinet across town.
His SUV wasn't bad.
It just wasn't built for his next level.
So he found himself standing at a crossroads.
Does he stay with what's familiar and keep working around the limitations? Or does he make the investment required to become the person—and build the business—he believes God is calling him to build?
Well... from the picture above, you already know what happened.
The SUV is gone.
The pickup truck is sitting in the driveway.
Here we go.
Watching him make that decision made me wonder how many of us are trying to reach our next level while holding onto something that's keeping us at our current one.
Maybe it isn't a vehicle.
Maybe it's a mindset.
Maybe it's fear.
Maybe it's procrastination.
Maybe it's the comfort of what you already know.
Maybe it's the belief that "someday" you'll finally be ready.
Here's something I've learned after years of coaching leaders.
Your next level almost always requires a new investment.
Sometimes it's money.
Sometimes it's time.
Sometimes it's learning a new skill.
Sometimes it's having a difficult conversation you've been avoiding.
Sometimes it's simply making a decision you've known you needed to make for months.
The point is this: your next level will almost always cost you something.
But so does staying where you are.
That's the cost we rarely think about.
What's the cost of another year of drifting?
What's the cost of never writing the book, starting the business, improving your marriage, getting healthy, serving the poor, or finally stepping into what God has placed on your heart?
I've become convinced that most people don't miss their next level because they lack talent.
They miss it because they never make the investment.
God has prepared good works for each of us (Ephesians 2:10). Those opportunities rarely come with flashing lights. More often, they arrive disguised as uncomfortable decisions, calculated risks, and faithful first steps.
So let me ask you...
What's your pickup truck?
What's the investment you've been contemplating?
What decision have you been postponing?
What have you been "thinking about" that God may already be asking you to do?
Don't let a comfortable today rob you of an extraordinary tomorrow.
My son didn't just buy a truck.
He bought capacity.
He bought opportunity.
He bought his next level.
Maybe it's time for you to do the same.
If you're ready to stop circling the decision and start moving toward the life God has for you, I'd love to help. Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to bring clarity to your next step.

Much Love,
Dave
