I will figure this out

I Will Figure It Out
When was a time in your life where you just had to “figure it out?”
Go back there for a minute.
What was happening? What was at stake? What made this situation different?
Maybe you had a child who desperately needed you. Maybe you were facing a financial crisis and the numbers simply didn’t work. Maybe you were given an opportunity you felt completely unqualified for.
You didn’t know exactly what to do.
But somehow, you knew one thing:
“I will figure this out.”
I can think of plenty of these moments in my own life.
Once I met Margie—my now wife of 33 years—I had some figuring out to do! When you know you’ve met the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with, you start thinking differently.
You even pray differently when you have to figure it out!
Recently, my luggage got lost for essentially an entire international trip. Clothes, necessities, plans—gone. Okay. Now what?
Figure it out.
And then there are the much more serious moments. Losing people you love. Situations you can’t fix or reverse. Times when “figuring it out” doesn’t mean solving the problem—it means figuring out how to take the next step.
Sometimes it really is starting from scratch.
Just you and a blank piece of paper.
No answers.
No roadmap.
No guarantees.
But you start with the end in mind:
I WILL FIGURE THIS OUT.
There’s something powerful that happens when a situation becomes urgent enough.
It’s a gear.
It’s a mindset.
It’s a place of faith and conviction where past insecurities begin to fade and possibility prospers.
Suddenly, you’re not spending as much time wondering:
Am I smart enough?
Am I talented enough?
What if I fail?
What will everyone think?
Instead, your energy moves toward possibility.
You research. You ask. You pray. You call people. You try something. You get creative. You fail. You adjust. You try again.
And here’s the fascinating part:
You didn’t suddenly become smarter, stronger, more talented, or more capable.
You decided.
What if we didn’t wait for an emergency to access that gear?
What if “I will figure it out” became part of our identity?
I am someone who finds a way.
I am someone who asks for help.
I am someone who keeps moving.
I am someone who trusts God even when I can’t see the entire path.
I figure things out.
So, what is sitting in front of you right now?
Maybe it’s time to grab that blank piece of paper.
Write these five words across the top:
I WILL FIGURE IT OUT.
Then start.
Practice this mindset until it becomes a conviction. Practice the conviction until it becomes an identity.
And if you’re facing something right now that you’re determined to figure out, but you could use someone in your corner, I’d love to help.
Sometimes the first step toward figuring it out is simply having the right conversation.
