Unfulfilled?
Apr 23, 2026
My wife and I just returned from a trip to a place where about 60% of the people make less than $2 a day.
As always, it was extremely humbling. Perspective hits you over the head with what feels like a two-by-four.
Side note—my luggage finally made it to the hotel after a week… about 12 hours before we had to leave. I was glad it showed up. But even that was just a tiny glimpse—a mild tickle—of what it’s like to be in need. And honestly… barely even that.
We visited homes where four people lived without beds—just cement floors and a blanket.
Schools with no computers. No printers. No lunches.
I could go on and on.
But what stood out most?
The joy.
The energy of the kids.
Their friendships.
The laughter.
There was a genuine jubilance about them that honestly encouraged my heart.
And something else stood out too…
Watching our team.
Different people, different gifts—each finding their way to connect, to encourage, to support.
And something happens in those moments.
When you connect with someone, when you bring light and love into their world—even for a few days…
It changes you.
It’s real.
It’s mutual.
It’s powerful.
So let me ask you:
How open are you to an experience like that?
What might it do for your heart?
What might you learn?
What might you teach?
How might you impact someone else’s life?
I’m not sure of all the answers.
But I am sure of this:
When you connect with others and begin to see possibility in them… it lifts both of you.
What if we all spent just a little more time doing that?
As a coach, there’s a phrase I hear all the time:
“I need to…”
“I need to give more.”
“I need to figure things out.”
“I need to make a change.”
And I’ll usually respond with:
“Need to… or will?”
Because there’s a big difference.
There are a million things we need to do.
But what will you actually commit to?
For many, especially as we get older, the conversation turns to planning, security, and the future.
Those are important.
But here’s a deeper question:
Who do you want to serve?
What lights a fire in your heart?
If you could help one group of people in one meaningful way—who would it be?
Because over time, something subtle happens.
We can begin to look away.
To stay comfortable.
To focus inward.
And slowly, the heart can harden.
Not intentionally—but gradually.
You don’t have to do everything.
But you can do something.
As Mother Teresa once said:
“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”
So maybe the better question is:
What would it be like to open the door of your heart to service?
And if it’s already open… what would it be like to open it even further?
What role would you love to play?
What would you love to help build?
How could you contribute?
This kind of life doesn’t happen by accident.
It takes intention.
It takes courage.
It takes a decision.
But it’s worth it. Completely.
So what’s stopping you?
Fear?
Uncertainty?
Comfort?
Don’t let those things keep you from stepping into something meaningful.
Because the life you’re looking for…
is found in helping someone else find theirs.
If something in you is stirring—don’t ignore it.
If you’re ready to step into something bigger… to serve, to give, to grow into a higher calling—
reach out.
This is the kind of shift that changes everything.
Much Love,
Dave
