Grow Young Again!

Grow Young Again!
Let’s be honest — life has a way of aging us on the inside.
Responsibilities pile up. Dreams fade. Battles leave scars.
Without realizing it, our hearts can grow tired, our passion dim, and our faith turn mechanical.
Jesus warned us about this very danger: “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (Matthew 24:12–13)
That’s the danger — to grow old on the inside.
But Jesus also gave us the antidote: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3)
He wasn’t scolding, but speaking with sobering clarity.
Staying young in spirit — curious, trusting, passionate — is not optional if we intend to live fully in God’s kingdom.
Bruce Springsteen captured this tension in No Surrender. One voice says:
“I can feel my heart begin to pound
You say you’re tired and you just want to close your eyes
And follow your dreams down.”
It’s the voice of weariness, of giving in.
But then comes the declaration:
“Well, we made a promise we swore we’d always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender.”
And here’s the stanza that demands our attention — a battle cry against growing cold:
“Well, now young faces grow sad and old
And hearts of fire grow cold
We swore blood brothers against the wind
Now I’m ready to grow young again.”
That’s the choice — to grow weary, or to grow young again. And growing young again isn’t wishful thinking. It’s a practice.
Three Ways to Grow Young Again
-
Stay Connected to the Fire of Others – We were never meant to do this alone. Surround yourself with people whose hearts are burning hot for God. Community keeps you from cooling down. When you walk with the “growing young,” you catch fire too.
-
Keep Childlike Trust Alive – Resist the pull to overanalyze and debate every command of God. Like Peter, who cast his nets “because You say so,” choose trust over calculation. Faith grows young when it simply believes.
-
Release What Ages Your Soul – Cynicism, bitterness, and regret will make you old long before your years. Let go of the stories that weigh you down. Forgive. Clear space for hope. Protect your heart from growing cold.
So — which voice represents you today?
The one who says it’s over?
Or the one who declares, “I’m ready to grow young again”?
If you’re ready to reignite your fire, maybe it’s time for coaching — a space to grow young again in your faith, your calling, and your purpose.
No retreat. No surrender.
